DrizzlePac

DrizzlePac is a new software package for aligning and combining HST images, which brings an array of new features and algorithmic improvements. It is the successor to the older, widely used MultiDrizzle software. As of July 2012, all drizzled products obtained from MAST are produced with AstroDrizzle.

Alignment

MAST creates drizzled products for single visit associations only. To combine data from additional visits or from datasets obtained with different guide stars, TweakReg may be used to improve the alignment by updating the image header World Coordinate System. Once all the datasets are properly aligned, they may be combined with AstroDrizzle.

Image Combination

AstroDrizzle automates the process of removing geometric distortion, correcting for varying sky background, flagging cosmic-rays, and combining images with optional subsampling. An abbreviation for Astrometric Drizzle, AstroDrizzle was designed from the ground-up to improve the handling of astrometry and geometric distortion.
